My name is Leslie García López, chair of public relations for West Virginia State’s HonorSociety.org Chapter. This past Saturday April 20th, it was West Virginia State University Cares Day, a day when we give back to the community. It is one of the many reasons I enjoy being a part of Honor Society, in the sense that it allows me to give back and aligns with my personal values.
This year we decided to go to Kanawha State Forest shooting range and clean all the trash, bullet shells and used shooting targets that we could, it was a small action that made a great difference at the state park. All 20 volunteers gave the community their day to contribute. No matter rain or shine everybody had a great enthusiasm to help.
After we were done with the shooting range we were also able to clean different trails and check out an abandoned mine that was modified by different volunteers so that endangered Indian bats wouldn’t be disturbed by humans!
