Jared Tunks, our Undergraduate Achiever Scholarship recipient, is currently a senior at Barren County High School, utilizing the duel credit program offered through Western Kentucky University. He plans to transfer his credits over to Eastern Kentucky University in the fall to begin his freshman year of college. “Currently at my high school, I was the first student to gain admittance into the Tech Office Internship spot for the school’s technology department.
I have been active throughout all four years of high school in this department and plan to further my studies by majoring in Computer Science with a focus in Cyber Security at EKU. I have been active in STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program) since 7th grade and have been an officer for the club this past year. Junior year, I had the privilege of applying for the Jr. Engineer program with KySTE (Kentucky Society of Technology in Education) to act as on-site tech support for large scale tech conventions.
I have also been active in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) as an officer since sophomore year. Business ethics, workplace behavior, and professionalism have been three main lessons consistently demonstrated through these past three years. By being selecting for the undergrad achiever scholarship, a bit of stress has been lifted off my shoulders as it has relieved a bit of the financial burden of tuition into EKU. Hopefully with another scholarship or two, alongside this achiever scholarship for undergrads, I will be able to pursue my passion for IT and utilize those skills in real-world workplaces.”
